The new Unison Research MAX MINI is the smallest model in the MAX range and was especially created to be matched with Unison Research tube amplifiers. To do this, both the sensitivity and the impedance of the MAX MINI were optimized according to the performance of our own tube amplifiers. The MAX MINI is a compact, reflex loaded two way bookshelf, with two front-firing reflex ports. This speaker can also be used as front and/or rear channels in Home Theatre systems. Two pairs of MAX MINI configured as front and rear channels can form the basis of a compact home theatre system that gives great emotional impact even without the presence of a centre channel or sub-woofer. The MAX MINI’s bass performance is very deep and loud, whereas it has a clear and precise mid-range and extremely high-quality treble. The MAX MINI is easy to position for optimal sound performance in your listening room. The Italian-made 8" woofer cone is made from a special mix of vegetable and carbon fibres and felt. Its 51 mm diameter, dual-layer (one inside and one outside) voice coil, is wound on an aluminium former using aluminium wire. The woofer is equipped with a metal demodulating ring that controls variations in flux, helping to reduce its harmonic and intermodulation distortion to inaudible levels. The magnet is neodymium, whereas the outer triple-roll suspension (the rim) is made of fabric and polyester fibres and is damped with a new concept product. The basket is die-cast for maximum stiffness. This woofer can handle over 200 watts of continuous power, much more than it will have to endure in everyday use. This guarantees the complete absence of thermal compression. The compression driver (also made in Italy) has a one inch throat and the voice coil wire is in aluminium and is loaded with a polyurethane elliptical ESS Constant Coverage horn (60° x 50°). It is incredibly robust and linear, and its sound is natural without any hint of nasality. The directivity index is constant and remains within +/-0.85dB up to over 12kHz. The heart of the MAX MINI is the crossover filter which was designed with special care and attention, and was designed using GTN technology (Genesis Transparent Network).The frequency slopes of the high pass and low pass sections are symmetrical (12/12 dB/octave) and the crossover frequency is positioned between 1 and 1.5kHz. It is constructed with high quality, low tolerance components that are subject to further selection in our factory. The self-bonding coils are made from OFC wire. The low-tolerance capacitors are from Mundorf and the resistors are metal-oxide technology (MOX) with 1% tolerance and low temperature coefficient. The cabinet is, of course, made in Italy by expert craftsmen. In fact, except for the capacitors and resistors, the entire speaker has been designed and manufactured in Italy. On the rear panel, near the input terminals, there is a switch that can adjust the MAX MINI for optimal performance when used with tube or solid-state amplifiers. Particular care has been taken to make the impedance curve as smooth as possible in order to reduce the effect of the cables and the damping factor of the amplifier. In particular, the minimum impedance value has been kept to around 6 ohms. The electrical impedance complies with the DIN 45500 standard for speakers with 8 ohm nominal impedance.
